So what in my brutal CD player this week? |
|
|
| 1. Cannibal Corpse - Evisceration Plague (can't stop listening to this new CD) | |||
| 2. Arsis - We Are the Nightmare (completely wicked technical death metal) | |||
| 3. Carcass - Heartwork (can't wait to see them next weekend) | |||
So good to see you back in brutality once again my friends . . . it's been a typical hectic week here in the Low Twelve Command Center as work continues with the "Splatter Pattern" CD. We've got lots of updates to pass on with that new project, plus Dan takes his turn in Nasty Studios and shreds it up! Continue on if you want the latest updates on that.
In addition to all the recording going on, we've been getting ready for show 255 as we tear Show Me's Bar & Grill to shreds on Saturday March 21st. I've got a little preview of that show, plus all the details if you're in the Bloomington Illinois area that night, be sure to come by and experience the first show of the year for us. The latest edition of the Heavycore Chopping Block is also ready for your metal consumption, so don't miss out on that as I bust out some of the new Cannibal Corpse - plus tons of other ultra-heavy shit this time around. Plus I got some new ass whipping studio monitors for Nasty Studios, Meister got a sweet new rack for his guitar stuff and an EQ to make his sound even crunchier and more wicked than before! All this plus much more . . . like those hot little skanks in the Brutality Report XXX and one nasty new Skank of the Week for you sick bastards out there who love the twistedness of it all.
So - posers of this planet get ready to recoil from the brutality of it all . . . as I dish out the punishment. Of course all you true metal freaks know the drill, and I'm sure by now - as I close in on the elusive 500th Brutality Report, expect the pain with vigor.
Now get on with it.
| WES & PETE TO HIT THE CARCASS SHOW NEXT SUNDAY |
|
| We are pumped as hell for
the March 15th Carcass show at the Pearl Room in Mokena Illinois.
We've been waiting for a while for this one, and the fact that they're
also playing with Arsis, Samael, and Psycroptic makes it even that much
more wicked! I'll be there as a guest of Nuclear Blast Records to
do backstage interviews with both Samael and Psycroptic - which should
be a blast. I was hoping to do an interview with Carcass, since
this reunion tour is such an anticipated event in metal history . . .
but I guess they're not doing many of them on the road. But I will
be there with my camera taking lots of pics at the show and so that
should be kick ass. Wes is coming along too and also my son Joe. We're all excited and will have many pics and I'm sure some good tales of brutalness from this one! If anyone is looking to go to this show, you can get tickets from Ticketmaster or at the venue. You might want to call them ahead if you want to get tickets at the show. This place is a great venue and easy to find off I-80 in Mokena Illinois. Maybe I'll see you at the show! |

| SPLATTER PATTERN UPDATES |
|
| I picked up some better
studio monitors for Nasty Studios. These Behringer MS 40 monitors
kick total ass and so far have made a world of difference when recording
here. I just got them on Friday, so I haven't had much time to
work with them - but so far, it's been wicked. I recorded an intro
to the song "Mountains of the Dead" and it turned out great and being
able to listen back at high volumes without the speakers distorting
makes things easier. I guess I was so used to the speakers I was
using, that I didn't notice how bad they were until I hooked up these
bad boys and cranked it up! What did I test on them first?
"Priests of Sodom" from the new Cannibal Corpse CD and they moved the
skin on my face when I had it up at loud volumes . . . nice. Dan came in and tore it up the week before last. He was very comfortable here at Nasty Studios and did a great job with "Scourge", "Lines Drawn", and "A Hero's Last Stand". He also did a cool intro we're going to use for "A Hero's Last Stand" with his clean guitar channel - and I'm going to incorporate that with some of the 1966 Vietnam stuff that Rick Rescorla's friend Fred McBee sent in. I can't wait to start working on that, because this song is going to be a monster! We're very happy with the way it's turned out, and while it's a Low Twelve song all the way, it does takes some twists and turns that you might not expect. We're anxious to get some fan reaction from it. Check out Dan below, cheesing it up at Nasty Studios. He spent 3 nights here, working hard from about 6pm to 10pm each night. After working all day - it kicked both our asses to work that late, but it paid off because we got to really work out some kinks and get things ready for the actual tracking that will happen very soon. |

Dan Steinlicht - Low Twelve - Nasty Studios February
2009
When going through the tracks, one thing we notice were the drums were a bit fast in spots, making it difficult to record our parts. Wes gave them a hard look, and after much thought, decided to do them over again and use a click track to avoid that problem from happening. Wes always wanted to stay away from click tracks, because we thought it would take away from the "live feel" we always wanted to capture on our CD's. But, after watching the DVD that came with the new Cannibal Corpse CD, we both realized that even Cannibal Corpse was starting to use click tracks . . . for the same reason.
So what is a click track? Well - it's like a metronome - a clicking sound that the drummer listens to when recording. It keeps him on tempo, so the song is played exactly right every time. The click track will also be used by me, Meister, and Dan as we lay our tracks down, to further ensure that we're on the money. I'll probably use them for vocals too - why not? Wes sat down and set up the click tracks for each song, which was very time consuming - but they sound great. Of course once the song is recorded, the click tracks are taken out, so you don't hear them. But it helps keep the music on tempo so there's no guess work or speeding up/slowing down concerns. Wes even tried to play with the click track in his headphones at practice the last two times and it has worked out very well. Most of your big arena bands use click tracks live, so that the lights and everything can be in sync - especially if they use video stuff going on in the background while the band is playing. If anyone saw Queensryche do the "Operation Mindcrime" stuff live, that is how they did that. It's really the only way to do it 100% correct and even though it will set us back about a month, we're going to do it and make sure "Splatter Pattern" is right.
Wes is working with engineer Nathan Kurtz on coming back to Bloomington to record all the songs in one day at his house. This will makes things much easier and should give us a solid foundation to record with. I'm excited to hear Low Twelve tighter than ever!
We just completed "Hand of the Dying" at practice yesterday, so now we only have the instrumental that Wes wrote called "Fire For Effect" and the title track, "Splatter Pattern" that Meister and I collaborated on that will be a thrasher along the lines of "Brutal World". So we're very close to finishing up the writing and putting this fucker down!
| STUPID PRACTICE SHIT |
|
| We had some friends stop by
practice yesterday - it was great to see them! Pa Shawback -
father of the infamous Shawback brothers who are often found in mosh
pits throughout the Midwest! Chris and Michael Shawback have been
friends of ours for many years, nearly since the first show - and their
Dad and Mom are awesome supporters too! Chis brought along his son
- Cole, to practice too. Nice! We got a lot of work done and hammered out the last of the kinks in the newest song "Hand of the Dying". We plan on doing that song at the Show Me's show, along with many of the new songs that fans haven't heard before! Don't miss it: Saturday March 21st Check out some more pics that were taken yesterday . . . plus a shot of Meister's new rack with a kick ass EQ to really dial in his tone. We sounded more brutal than ever before with this bastard! |

Dan and Meister just before we made LOTS of noise

Check out Wes with his new glasses . . . I've been
kidding him that he's not the "Kill Floor Kid" anymore! Ha.

So get ready for the new "Splatter Pattern" CD . . . artwork from Jeff Gaither will be coming along soon too! How about that? Plus get your ass to the show on 3/21 at Show Me's. It should be kick ass and an ass stomping in the finest order.
| DON'T FORGET ABOUT XXX! |
|
| Last year we started taking
some of the more "extreme" photos off the Brutality Report so that
others could enjoy following Low Twelve and Heavycore without having to
see that sort of stuff. So we starting doing the Brutality Report
XXX - for you more hardcore bastards (or bitches) out there. As you know, we've got lots of hot chicks on the Brutality Report XXX page. But, that's only for adults, so if that's not your thing, or you're not legal to check that sort of thing out, then don't go there. You must be 18 or older to see that sort of thing - so you've been warned. But if you are legal to see that stuff and wish to - then you can see hot chicks like Jenny (pictured right) and many more, doing some nasty things. So why not check out lots of free picture and movie galleries where you can see sexy teens getting naked and performing acts that only adults can see. We do a feature each week of one of the hottest young girls on the web - offering several galleries for you to check out. Some have movies on them too, so you can see much more than still shots. We also post several more galleries - featuring girls that do nasty things. We also have an archive of past galleries, so you could wind up with a disability claim from all the jerking you're about to do! So be careful and don't hurt yourselves . . . we need you in the trenches - being brutal as ever for the underground metal movement. So that gives you an idea of what's in store . . . lots of hot teen chicks doing nasty things. Need I say more? Just one last time - remember you must be 18 or older to see such things . . . so don't go there unless you're legal. Click on the link below if you want to check out Brutality Report XXX and don't come whining to us if your cock gets sore from all the jerking - or if you're a female and that nub gets worn down. Enjoy the perversion! Happy jerkin'! |
