So good to see you back in brutality once again my friends . . . as we shred posers where they stand. You'll get to see Wes tearing it up in the studio doing drum tracking for our upcoming "Splatter Pattern" CD and the rest of us in there with him being total fools. It's good stuff - so be sure to read the whole report.
In addition to all the recording stuff and updates to throw your way, I managed to get the February Chopping Block Show completed. So check that out. I play a cut off the new Kreator CD - which is completely fucking brutal. Plus lots more great stuff - some you have heard before, and probably some stuff you haven't. . . MEISTER NEEDS SURGERY I did get some emails this week from concerned Twelve Heads about my health. I'm feeling much better and my blood sugars continue to improve. So thanks for the kind words and all that shit. As things continue to improve, so will my energy level. With all the recording stuff going on - I'm going to need it! On a side note - Meister's right middle finger will need surgery. He's going to wait it out and make sure the recording is done first. He also said he doesn't want to miss any shows, because after his surgery, he'll be down for approximately 4-6 weeks with a splint that probably won't allow him to really play. So for now - he's going to gut it out and deal with some pain. If you remember, he was fucking around with a buddy and busted his finger on the dude's head! Damn - those fucking people from Pontiac - ha. So - the Low Twelve express rolls the fuck on. |

| SPLATTER PATTERN UPDATES |

| I was doing some filming
while Wes began drum tracking for the upcoming "Splatter Pattern" CD.
Check out a short 2-3 minute video I put together from that session.
It's pretty funny - you get to see Wes playing, and then some stupid
shit between us talking when he's done. This was done on 1/17/09
at the former practice spot - the V-12 Concussion Chamber.

There is a lot more video that was shot, but I just wanted to give you all a little tease - when the new CD is done and out, we plan on then following up with a DVD with some brand new videos for songs on the new CD, plus a "Making of Splatter Pattern" type video so you can see how it was put together. As we move through the process, I'll keep giving you little snippets like this to let you in on the behind-the-scenes stuff. This week at practice we continued to drill the next four songs that Wes will track drums for. Those songs are: Mountains of the Dead, Bind Torture Kill, Dying Room, and A Hero's Last Stand. Speaking of A Hero's Last Stand, that's the song we need to finish up first for use in the Walk of Hero's display at Fort Benning Georgia this September. I continued working behind-the-scenes on Hand of the Dying - that's the song I wrote about a Marine who is slipping away in a MASH-type hospital in Iraq, and the doctors mad rush to save his life. This song was inspired by the books "Rule Number Two" and "Gift of Valor" about the heroic deeds of Jason Dunham - the Marine who won the Medal of Honor after he jumped on a grenade to save his fellow Marines. Meister and I will be singing this song together - he'll be singing the part of the Marine and me the doctor trying to save him. It's really cool and I think you'll all dig it. |
We will continue drum tracking on Sunday 2/8 with engineer Nathan Kurtz. So far the drums are sounding AWESOME - Nate is doing a fantastic job as is Wes in preparing himself for recording. I went to Wes' house yesterday and we did some single drum recording with the new "Big Daddy" microphone - and it sounded really good. This is stuff he might use for editing purposes later on down the road. After going through this a few times - you begin to learn little tricks on how to do it easier, better, and hopefully brutaler (is that a word? - ha)
Rick Rescorla's widow, Susan, sent me a copy of the book written about him - "Heart of a Soldier". She wrote a personal note and signed the book for me. I was planning to use it to do one last bit of research about Rick before we finalized the lyrics. So far the book is amazing and I'm about halfway done in only 3 days. I really enjoy researching for lyrics and subject matter - I think it makes the songs that much more meaningful and from the heart. So things are moving along - soon Meister and Dan will be making there way over here to record guitars. That should be in the next couple of weeks. Then things will really start to take shape and all. So I'll keep you posted on our progress.
