► Pete's Health Concern

► More Hot Chicks in Brutality Report XXX This Week

So what in my brutal CD player this week?

1.  Kreator - Hordes of Chaos (wicked new stuff from the thrash MASTERS)
2.  Arsis - United in Regret (completely wicked technical death metal)
3.  Killer Karaoke - Destroying the Classics (sometimes you gotta laugh at yourself)

So good to see you back in brutality once again my friends . . . it's good to be back at the helm after a week away.  I had to go out of town for business reasons, and so I'm backlogged big time on many things.  But the Low Twelve recording forges ahead and things are sounding really good with the drum tracking so far.  We'll be giving you all those updates, plus some pics of us in the V-12 doing the recording.  So stay tuned for that you brutal bastards.

I've been battling with some various health issues in the past couple of weeks that have made it hard for me to sit down for long periods of time on the computer.  So - I do appreciate the understanding about me missing the Brutality Report last week.  I hate doing that - but when I can't do it . . . well - I can't do it.  I'll explain more about my health concerns later in the report, but I hope that it won't hold anything back with our upcoming "Splatter Pattern" CD.  In addition, I've got some smoking hot girls in the Brutality Report XXX - so you horny bastards (who are legal to view that sort of thing) should go check it out.  Of course there is a nasty new Skank of the Week for you real perverted and warped ones out there . . . I won't ever let you down!

So it's that time of the week to dig into a buffet of brutalness - while the posers of this work whine in the corner and wish none of these past ten years of Low Twelve ever happened.  We laugh at their lameness, and forge the fuck on with vigor!

Now get on with it.

LOW TWELVE LIVE IN 2009

We've been working on some shows to do once the recording is complete and we can once again focus on live shows.  I've been talking with Bob from Ocularis about doing one together with them in March somewhere in Bloomington - to kick off the good weather and a new year of Low Twelve live brutality.  Nothing is solid yet, but I'll keep you local Twelve Heads posted on that one.

In addition, we've been talking with Luke Offield, formerly of 3 Headed Moses (Columbia MO) who moved to Austin Texas and formed another new band called Mountain Demon.  These guys are kick ass and just joined up with Heavycore . . . and Luke is hoping to get them up this way in June, and of course if they do - we'll hook up a show for the occasion.  Plus, we are talking about following them south for a show in Columbia Missouri, where two of the others from 3 Headed Moses have been working on a new project.  So this could be a lot of fun and a chance to jam with good friends once again!

Lastly - I've been talking with a friend from the Cincinnati area, and he's going to try and set something up for us there.  He used to play in the band Retribution, and I've been wanting to jam with them since they joined Heavycore.  But - they broke up and so the next best thing would be to throw down a show and make some new fans.  We played at Sudsy Malone's in Cincy years ago, and Cannibal Corpse guitarist Pat O'Brien showed up!  What a trip that was!  So maybe this time we'll have that much of a good time once again!

So keep your ears and eyes open for the tour schedule for 2009 - once the recording is done, we'll be hitting the show circuit hardcore.

SOME HEALTH CONCERNS

Last week I got a call from one of the nurses at the VA I go to in Peoria Illinois - that my blood tests (A1C) were not that good.  Those are tests I do every six months to make sure my diabetes is under control.  As many of you know, I've been diabetic as long as there has been a Low Twelve.  I found out the week I met Tim and I almost decided against even starting the band after I found out, because I wasn't sure how it would effect me and I didn't want to waste others time.  I've been very luck for ten years, and that my A1C's are always good.  Good is between 4 and 6.  Mine was nearly 9 this time around.  That means the diabetes is effecting my major organs - and obviously that's a serious matter.

So - they've got my medicine adjusted and we're watching things closely.  The effect it has had on me is taking my energy down big time - I'm very tired no matter how much sleep I get.  So it's been tough, and that's why I was not able to do the report last week . . . in addition to my back acting up too.

One of the reasons that this could be happening is that I've been on the same brand of insulin since 1998.  Sometimes people need to change it up, but since the VA doesn't have all the best and most recent medicines, that's all I've had available.  But it seems like this may have been happening to other vets and so now they do offer a variety, and so it appears I'll be changing to a new and more modern type of insulin that should work much better for me.  They also say that as a diabetic gets older, the sugars are harder to control.  So it may be a combination of things . . . but I'm doing my best to get things back on track and hoping that the new medicine will make me feel better.

I've always been honest and open with you fuckers about what's going on with me.  Thanks to all of you, when I battled cancer in 2001 - your emails helped motivate me to beat it down.  I did that then, and I'm sure this latest issue will also be smacked down like a bitch.

DRUM TRACKING BEGINS . . .

Engineer Nathan Kurtz prepares a track sheet for "Defiance to the End"

We began the long and arduous (that's difficult for you dumb fuckers out there) of recording our latest full length CD "Splatter Pattern" on Saturday January 17th.  We asked our friend and Skeptik guitarist, Nathan Kurtz, to come and do the drum tracking.  We worked with Nate a couple years ago when we first started recording these songs with Les, and planned to write the rest of them and record again.  Of course when Les quit in March 2008, and we had to get Meister and Dan up to speed quickly - that changed things.  We all knew the songs would change with two new members in the band.  We told Dan and Meister that the new songs that were written, were up to their interpretation and could be changed and re-arranged if necessary.  Dan was given free reign to do what he wished on solos.  We wanted Dan and Meister to be as involved as possible.

We were in the middle of writing the song "Scourge" with Les when he quit.  So that was the first song we wrote with Dan and Meister . . . oddly with Les as well in the beginning.  After that we wrote "A Hero's Last Stand" with the new lineup and are in the middle of "Hand of the Dying".  The music has been written and temporarily recorded for the last two songs of the CD "Fire For Effect" and the title track "Splatter Pattern".

Les was cool with us doing the drums in the V-12 Concussion Chamber - which resides at his place in Bloomington Illinois.  Nate actually suggested coming here, rather than all of us take our gear to where he practices with Skeptik in Fairfield Illinois . . . about 90 minutes away.  Nate had a hairy ride over, having to put his truck in a ditch because a semi driver decided to change lanes without telling anyone!  Luckily Nate pulled out of it without a scratch!  Despite the drama, he lead the recording like a pro and what we got were some incredible drums sounds!  You guys are going to shit when you hear how good the drums sound without any audio editing!   WOW.  Wes did an amazing job to prepare for doing these songs without us playing along.  He was very prepared and it showed!

The V-12 is very small - approximately 12 feet by 12 feet and a ceiling right at 6 foot.  So it was crowded to say the least.  But it brought back memories of jamming in that little room - with it's foot-thick walls of carpet, padding, ceiling panels, and plywood.  The V-12 was made with recording in mind and that's why we knew it was the best place to record Wes' new drum kit.  He picked up some new heads and that kit sounded incredible inside the walls of the V-12.  We used every microphone we had - including my new Electro-Voice - now coined "Big Daddy" as you will see.

Check out some pics of the session.  Wes tracked drums for "Defiance to the End", "Scourge", "Bodies in My Pocket", "Not Forgotten", and an old track that we are re-recording . . . that will be a secret for now.   I sat in a chair across from him and mouthed the words, so he was sure he was on track.  Meister and Dan helped too - making sure Wes played parts the right number of times, and all that.  It was a team effort - in true Low Twelve style.  But the real credit goes to Wes and his hard work, and Nate for doing such a great job as always!

Les peeks in and brings good cheer - it was awesome to see him again!

"Big Daddy" watching over - provides some help recording cymbals . . . ladies - it's ok to think what you're thinking!

I shot a bunch of video - that I will post in the next Brutality Report if I can.  We plan to release a DVD in the future and will use the footage of recording the CD in that somehow.  But I think sharing some of it with you all would be cool and a good way for you to understand the recording process.  The next step is for Meister and Dan to come over and record guitars, and me the bass - and all of us on the vocals.  We've got a lot to do - and we'll keep you posted on progress.  The plan is to track more drums on Sunday February 8th - the songs will be "A Hero's Last Stand", "Mountains of the Dead", "Bind Torture Kill", and "Dying Room".  That will leave us only three more to do and maybe "Chopping Block" just to have it for comps or anything like that.  We do not plan on releasing that song on this CD - since it doesn't really fit the subject matter that is prevalent throughout.

Thanks again to Les for letting us use the V-12, as well as Nate for coming up and doing such a great job.  Also - Dan made some killer chili, as did Les' wife Kim - so we enjoyed that for lunch.  Hell yeah.

DON'T FORGET ABOUT XXX!

As you know, we've got lots of hot chicks on the Brutality Report XXX page.  But, that's only for adults, so if that's not your thing, or you're not legal to check that sort of thing out, then don't go there.
