So good to see you back in brutality once again my friends . . . it's been a great week here in the Low Twelve Command Center as we've been involved with several projects that are exciting to say the least. You'll learn later in the Brutality Report about a very big event going on that may involve the brutal ones - Low Twelve! Yes, our song "A Hero's Last Stand" about 9/11 hero Rick Rescorla is possibly going to be used this coming September for a big event going on at Fort Benning Georgia - home of the US Army infantry! We're beyond excited about it and I'll explain in much greater detail, so be sure to read on you bastards.
In addition to that exciting project - we are preparing to record once again on Saturday 1/18 at the former practice spot of Low Twelve for several years . . . the V-12 Concussion Chamber! Yes - we'll be tracking drums starting next Saturday and it's exciting as we begin the long, arduous process of recording our next full length CD - "Splatter Pattern". It's going to be wicked and I'll explain what's going on in this report. Plus some sad news as former Bloomington Illinois bar owner, Jeffro, passed away this week. He's got a funny tie in with Low Twelve - so I will let you in on that later in the report. Plus, we've got plenty of hot teen sluts, and some MILF's that don't know when to put down the cock and get back to cooking some dude's supper . . . in the Brutality Report XXX. If you're eating while reading this, then make sure you check out the Skank of the Week this week . . . it's likely to cause you to gag (like Meister when I "shit my pants" at practice yesterday - ha) or maybe even puke up whatever you're attempting to ingest. So enjoy that one!
All you big babies out there who can't stand Low Twelve because we showed up here in Central Illinois in 1998 - completely out of the blue and destroyed your poser ass. All the pussy bands are gone, because we ran their asses out and back to rounding up shopping carts at the local Wal-Mart. That's probably better anyway. Because while their commandeering those carts around, their women folk are home rubbing the nub and check out the latest Brutality Report. Why interfere with a woman on a mission right?
Now get on with it.
| LOCAL BARTENDER
PASSES Longtime local bartender, Jeff "Jeffo" Niepagen, passed away this week in Bloomington Illinois. He was a bartender at the local Windjammer Lounge and was formerly the owner of Jeffro's Good People in Bloomington. I met him years ago, before I even started Low Twelve when me and former Low Twelve drummer, Steve Chestney, used to go to his bar and watch the Steelers each Sunday. Those were some good times, and as the band began back in 1998, Jeffro would always ask me to bring in a CD of us so he could check it out and maybe have us play his bar. Well, I knew that Jeffro wasn't into that sort of thing and that we wouldn't fit well with the parade of cover bands he had play the bar on weekends. But he was persistent, and wanted me to bring him a copy of our first demo "Blunt Force Trauma". Well - I went down there to Jeffro's one Saturday night, after leaving our demo with him the weekend before. He pulled me aside and looked completely freaked out! I mean he looked like someone was getting ready to shoot him or something. He kept saying over and over again, in his distinctive gravelly voice - "I just can't have it". I was thinking to myself - what the hell is he talking about? But the live music going on was loud, and so it was difficult to fully hear him. So then he leaned closer, and was saying "I just can't have it" over and over into my ear. Then he continued, "with all the good in this world Pete - why are you writing songs about chopping people's hands off, and killing kids and stuff like that?" I was dying - because I knew he was going to freak out about the CD. I told him it was ok - and that he could just throw it away and forget about it. He was now grabbing my shoulder and continued to say stuff like "I just can't believe it, It's just horrible Pete" and repeated "I just can't have it" two or three more times before I started to just walk away from him - fearing I was going to just laugh in his face. Finally, he went into the back and got the CD and gave it back to me. He didn't even want it in the bar! I was laughing so hard, I remember calling Tim when I got home to tell him the story. It's been a running band joke for years - saying "I just can't have it". In an early Low Twelve press kit, before we had any reviews, Jeffro's comments were immortalized. Ha. All crap aside - he was always a super nice guy and was the type of guy you enjoyed being around. It's been almost 10 years since I had seen him and heard that he was gone this week. Check out his obituary in the local Pantagraph newspaper. They're having a benefit for him today (Sunday 1/11) at the Windjammer Lounge where he worked. | LOW TWELVE CONSIDERED FOR WALK OF HEROES CEREMONY |
|
|
I've been telling you all about our new song "A Hero's Last Stand" that is a tribute to the fallen hero Rick Rescorla, who saved 2,700 people at the World Trade Center on 9/11 as well as on the battle field in Vietnam as a lieutenant in the infamous Ia Drang Valley battle. Well - this week I got an urgent email from Rick's widow Susan, and she wanted me to call her about something big going on with Rick. So we spoke - for over an hour on Friday night. She is a very nice lady and is all about wanting to do whatever she can to memorialize her late husband. She asked me a lot of questions about Low Twelve and our motivation to write the song about Rick - because they are hoping to use the track at a big unveiling of Rick's statue (see right) at the Walk of Heroes display at the new Infantry Museum - Fort Benning Georgia! Of course I was completely blown away and told her that we would be honored if they would use the track in any way. She went on to say they expect 10,000 people at this event, where General Colin Powell is to speak . . . as well as all the media you can stand! I told her we would do it for absolutely no publicity, but she insisted on letting us take all credit we can and to hopefully use the platform to help our band! How cool is that? In addition to all that - there is what they are calling "the final piece of steel" from the WTC that is currently in the good hands of the Iron and Steel NYC bikers club . . . former vets who ride in charity events. These guys are true Americans with a emphasis on the first responders to the WTC, as well as our military. These guys are planning to make a 4-day trip from NYC to Fort Benning Georgia, starting on 9/11. Susan told me that she was planning to ride the final leg of the trip on the back of a Harley and will lead the pack of 600-700 bikers to the museum. That's when she wants Low Twelve's music to be heard - as the bikers roll in with the final piece of steel. This steel will be placed in Rick's display - along with the statue, his medals, and information about his story at the WTC as well as in Vietnam at Ia Drang. I can't even tell you how excited we all are about this! We are honored that Susan and her foundation would consider us for this. I told her over and over about how heavy we were - and she said it was fine. Right now the details are still being worked out, and obviously we need to record the song and get it mixed down so she can hear it and pass a copy to the Iron and Steel guys as well as the people at Fort Benning. So nothing is for sure - but even being considered for such a thing is a tremendous honor. Having served in the 7th Cavalry myself - the honor is beyond words. We'll keep you posted on how things develop here. The band is also planning to attend the ceremony if that is possible! | RECORDING BEGINS
SATURDAY! With the big news that dropped about the Fort Benning ceremony . . . we knew that we really had a lot riding on our upcoming recording. We will begin the drum tracking on Saturday 1/17 at our former practice spot, the V-12 Concussion Chamber. You all remember that place - where we practiced at Les' place in Bloomington. Wes will be setting up his drums and laying down tracks for four of the twelve songs we plan to record. Engineering the session will be our friend and Skeptik guitarist - Nathan Kurtz. Nate did a great job when we worked with him a couple years ago with recording some new songs - so we asked him to be involved with it again. He suggested coming here this time, and since the V-12 was built with recording in mind - we figured what the hell. Les was cool with us doing the recording at the V-12 and so we all thought it was a good idea. I'll be doing lots of picture taking and even some video of it - so keep posted for that. Me, Meister, and Dan will all be there in case Wes needs us for his tracking. He's been practicing playing the songs without us, so it's likely we'll be only there in support - but either way, we're prepared to do what we need to to help get the job done. We are very excited about using the new lineup to record. As mentioned last week, we'll be recording the guitars, bass, and vocals here at my home studio. Now that I have the room and no neighbors close enough to complain - we can crank the guitars up and let it rip. We'll be working on that while Wes mixes his drums down. Then a couple weeks later, we'll record the second group of four (which is where A Hero's Last Stand will be) and then one more time for the last group. That gives us time to really work hard on the songs in smaller bites, and gives Wes time to do what he needs to do. We know it's a slow process, but having done "This Side Toward Enemy" - it should go much quicker than that and we intend it to sound a lot better as well. I bought a new vocal microphone for the studio - an Electro-Voice EV20. I'm very anxious to fuck around with that and to try it out when really screaming it out. Check out some pics from practice yesterday . . . the batteries in the camera died in the process - so no pics of me or Wes! Ha. Check out who stopped by to say hello!
Quick update on Meister's finger . . . he went to the hospital and found out it was broken. So he's got it in a splint - and hopefully things will heal up ok. If not - he may need some surgery - which we hope will not delay anything. Meister has been practicing anyway - and so we're confident that he'll be ok with it. Luckily it's on his picking hand. |
