So what in my brutal CD player this week? |
|
|
| 1. Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal (chugging death metal from the UK) | |||
| 2. Exodus - The Atrocity Exhibition, Exhibit A (incredible new CD from the thrash masters) | |||
| 3. Aeon - Rise to Dominate (still can't stop listening to this one) | |||
So good to see you back in brutality once again my friends . . . it's always nice to be slamming you in the ass on a Sunday morning. We had a kick ass show last night down at Paulie's in downtown Bloomington Illinois. We've got the pics to prove it and despite a crappy turnout, those in attendance got their sacks thoroughly thrashed for a while!
On a sad note, Polish death metal freaks Decapitated were on tour in Russia and had a bad accident that killed their drummer - Vitek. Their singer, Covan, is still in the hospital and slowly improving. More details later in this report. I've also got updates on new Low Twelve material that we'll be working on in this "off season", plus the usual array of hot and tasty young chicks who just love to strip down and make you all want to jerk off. You just might jerk off so hard that you'll be tossing DNA all over the place . . . on the phone . . . on the nightstand . . . the alarm clock - you get the picture? So get your cock in hand, or working that nub if you're a female, so we can commence to the ball slapping of the week.
You poser fucks out there need to step aside while a real metal band gets up to strut their shit. You weak ass bitches can't hold a candle to the monstrous sack of the brutal ones . . . shredding your worthless asses while our legions of loyal Twelve Heads mosh in your blood!
Now get on with it.
| THE LOSS OF ONE OF THE GREATS . . . |
|
| We hear about this sort of
thing from time to time and it just fucking sucks. There is no
good way to lose a metal brother. I was especially bummed with
this news - because I was so stoked to see Decapitated on December 8th
with Amon Amarth and others at the House of Blues in Chicago! I
reported here previously that I was on Metal Blade's press list to cover
the show with my son Joe and so I was really pissed that I missed seeing
Vitek behind the kit. I have always been a Decapitated fan and
marveled at his incredible skills on the drums! I haven't heard an
official cancelation of the rest of the tour - but I can only imagine
that they will not play this show. I could be wrong, but I'm sure
they're going to need time to gather thoughts and mourn for their loss. In addition to Vitek's death, their singer, Covan, was also taken to the hospital and is not out of the woods yet. So we hope for his speedy recovery and for the band to heal like they need to! I know we've had our share of tough times in Low Twelve, so we sympathize with them big fuckin' time! What I'm amazed with, is this dude was born the same year I started playing bass. For Christ's sake, talk about feeling old! These guys are all super young and started the band in their early teens. Here's what the band's official site said about the accident . . . Viitek and Covan (real name: Adrian Kowanek) were injured in an accident earlier in the week involving DECAPITATED's tour bus and a truck carrying wood in Gomel, on the Russia/Belarus border. Both musicians reportedly sustained serious head injuries in the collision, which is believed to have been the fault of the band's driver (although this has not yet been officially confirmed). Read more about Vitek and also if you're not familiar with Decapitated - you must check them out. They're fucking incredible if you like real fast death metal with wicked technical changes. These guys shred! The link is below. |

| THOSE HOT SLUTS NEXT DOOR |
|
| So you fuckers love to see
chicks getting naked? Well, you've cum to the right place.
In this column each week we feature a different hot chick, although Next
Door Nikki seems to dominate our reports each week. She's hot as
hell and it's no wonder her webmaster sends her galleries to us nearly
every week! While you're checking out these galleries, feel free to take the site visits. They're usually free and you can see more than just a few pics. Some of them feature videos and more. If you join up as a member, you get to see all the galleries and some of them include some seriously wicked stuff! Often times you can chat with the girls and mail in stuff for them to wear for future photo shoots. How about that? Check out these galleries we're featuring this week and don't worry about it. I won't tell on you. Promise! Just don't blame us if you get in trouble at home or school . . . or like one poor Twelve Head - he got fired from work for looking at porn. | WRITING, WRITING, AND
MORE WRITING
In February/March 2007 we recorded five new songs - Chopping Block, Dying Room, Bind Torture Kill, Not Forgotten, and Defiance to the End. These songs are mixed down and will be totally finished during this "off season" so that we can record five more. So far we've written and completed one more - Mountains of the Dead. We actually played it last night at the Paulie's show, for the first time, and it went over huge. It was a blast to give it a try on a live audience. But we still have four more to go. I have one ready to go to show Les and Wes this week at practice. It's called Bodies in My Pocket. I've told you all about this one already. Next on the slate is one I'm currently working on called Scourge. It's about Communism and what a scourge of the Earth it's been. That leaves three more. So I'll be very busy in this "off season" to write three more and get them tight and ready to record. In Low Twelve, we have a formula for writing that seems to work very well. I start the process by coming up with an idea that interests me. If I don't have that, I can't do it. I have to be interested in the subject matter, which is why our songs are usually about significant things in history, or a sensational news event like Gacy, or BTK or that sort of thing. Once I come up with the idea to write about I start to research it. Depending on the subject, this could take a week or more. For example, with Mountains of the Dead, I spent hours watching online videos about the Rape of Nanking - which is what the song is about. I also read a lot about the subject to come up with what I wanted to discuss and how to tell the story. Once I do the research, then I begin working on very simple vocal melodies. It sounds funny talking about melody and my screaming bald ass in the same sentence, but I come up with chorus and other vocal "hooks" first, by playing around with words and trying to get a working title to the song. For Mountains of the Dead, I wanted to tell the story of this horrible genocide by explaining what it would be like to walk into the city after it happened, and the piles of bodies all around. So I came up with: As I walk the streets covered with blood,
the sound of misery fills my head Once I get some vocals that I like, I begin to write music around them. Most metal music - the music is written and then the vocals. With Low Twelve, it's the opposite. I like to have a strong vocal line in mind and then write music around it - but sometimes it doesn't work out. Sometimes I hate the vocal when I bring it to practice, and then I wind up improvising and coming up with something even better. I write down my music ideas and lyrics in tab form and then take them to Les and Wes. Wes always brings great drumming ideas to the table, and while I might give him some suggestions on what I had in mind . . . he does it all and makes the song his own. Often times, he comes up with a cool beat that I will write music around and use in other parts of the song. Les also adds his own flair to the songs and comes up with sick ass harmonies, augmented chords, and lots of intricate melodies that really adds drama to the music. He does this all the time and it - combined with everything else, makes the patented Low Twelve sound. So we'll be writing a lot now - so you'll get updates on how things are going. Once we have five more ready, we'll call Nathan Kurtz up again to record the last group and then it will be back to mixing it down. I'm hoping to have "Blackened Spiral Down" out sometime fall 2008 as a realistic goal. We're also planning to shoot a video for every song on the CD and putting it out with a DVD with all the videos. How cool would that be? We'll keep you bastards updated! |
| LOW TWELVE TEARS PAULIE'S A NEW ASS |
|
| We hadn't played at Paulie's
since it was Lizards Lounge, many years ago. It was cool to be
back again and jam for the locals. The unfortunate thing was, that
the turnout was shitty. We're not sure what it was - because all
three bands helped with flyers, I did a snail mail to locals, and
hammered it on myspace and our email list. So everyone knew about
it. I'm thinking it was due to Halloween being on Wed, and most
people were either broke or tired from getting all fucked up at their
parties. Who fucking knows? But those who came out got an earful of brutal shit with Killborn, Low Twelve and Slavereign Nation. The show kicked off around 10:30pm and Killborn got up and spanked it. These guys shred and although still without a bass player, they played well. They'll sound KILLER with a bassist. I jumped up, along with Mike Collier of Ocularis, and sang their version of the Heavycore song. Fuck yeah! |
We got up next and tore the place a new ass. It's just that simple. We opened up with a funny intro I found on the web about vaginas . . . and then busted into a blistering set - Defiance to the End, Lines Drawn, Kill Everything, Dying Room, Bind Torture Kill, Within Lies, Chopping Block, Heavycore, Your God, Mountains of the Dead, Brutal World, Not Forgotten, Thin Skinned, Crawlspace and for an encore - Kill Floor. It was wicked. Huge fuck yeahs to the soundman - Dan. Nice job bro. We could hear it all with brutal clarity and had a blast jamming the new one too. Thanks to all who came out in support.
Slavereign Nation ended the show and played well. The had some equipment problems on bass, and then tried to continue on without the bassist, but then suffered some guitar issues! It was tough to watch, because I know they were very frustrated. They did the best they could and finished their show early to avoid any other calamity. These guys are a kick ass band - so it was tough to see them have a bad night. We talked after the show, and I think they've got it in perspective and will roll on from here. We talked about doing another show at Paulie's sometime this winter. I will pass on the date once we set one!
Check out the pics from Crazy Mike:

Wes - Low Twelve

Pete - Low Twelve (no I'm not really sleeeping)
Thanks again to the staff at Paulie's - especially Dan for doing a killer job on the sound. Thanks to Crazy Mike and Michelle for all the help, to the fans who came out and of course Killborn and Slavereign Nation for sharing the stage. It was also kick ass to see members of band who were not playing like Ocularis, Invocation, and more. I'm sure we'll do one of these again soon - and hopefully more fuckers will show up.
